My Thoughts Continued

I took some of this data here about the Propulsion technology for the UFO Engine and added the components for the Space Elevator because they came up together.

My Thoughts

In this section of data we learn more about how big our
Universe is and that the Milky Way is only a small part of it.

Interesting to find out exactly where the sun is located in the galaxy

I didn’t know it was in the Sagittarius Arm section.

The metric expansion of space is the increase of distance with time between distant parts of the universe. It is an intrinsic expansion—that is, it is defined by the relative separation of parts of the universe and not by motion “outward” into preexisting space.

The universe is not expanding “into” anything outside of itself. A frequently used analogy is the expansion of the surface of an expanding rubber balloon. In this analogy the universe has two spatial dimensions (the surface of the balloon) rather than three.

As the balloon expands, any two points on its surface get farther and farther apart. Another common analogy is a rising loaf of raisin bread—as the loaf expands, the raisins inside it move farther and farther apart from each other.

Diameter   30Kpc (100,000 light years)
Bulge   3 Kpc
Disk   1.5 Kpc thick
No. of Stars 100 billion

The center of the Milky Way is in Sagittarius, and is obscured from view by dust.
The Sun is XXX from center, in the Orion Arm.

During the Northern Hemisphere summer, the Milky Way we are viewing across the sky is in the direction of inwards towards the center of the Galaxy, and during the winter we are viewing ‘outwards’.

Because there is more ‘spiral arm’ material ‘inwards’ than ‘outwards’, the summer Milky Way is brighter.

On the other hand, a cold sky is drier than the summer sky, resulting in less scatterring of light allowing us to see the Milky Way with more contrast.

The Local Group is the group of galaxies that includes Earth’s galaxy, the Milky Way.

The group comprises more than 54 galaxies (including dwarf galaxies), with its gravitational center located somewhere between the Milky Way and the Andromeda Galaxy.

The galaxies of the Local Group cover a 10 million light-year diameter (see 1 E+22 m for distance comparisons) and have a binary (dumbbell)[1] shape. The group is estimated to have a total mass of (1.29 ± 0.14)×1012Ms.[1] The group itself is part of the Virgo Supercluster (i.e. the Local Supercluster).[2]

The two most massive members of the group are the Milky Way and the Andromeda Galaxy. These two Spiral galaxies each have a system of satellite galaxies.

• The Milky Way’s satellite system consists of Sagittarius Dwarf Galaxy, Large Magellanic Cloud, Small Magellanic Cloud, Canis Major Dwarf, Ursa Minor Dwarf, Draco Dwarf, Carina Dwarf, Sextans Dwarf, Sculptor Dwarf, Fornax Dwarf, Leo I, Leo II, and Ursa Major I Dwarf and Ursa Major II Dwarf.
• Andromeda’s satellite system comprises M32, M110, NGC 147, NGC 185, And I, And II, And III, And IV, And V, Pegasus dSph (aka And VI), Cassiopeia Dwarf (aka And VII), And VIII, And IX, And X, And XI, And XII, And XIII, And XIV, And XV, And XVI, And XVII, And XVIII, And XIX, and And XX.
• The Triangulum Galaxy, the third largest and only unbarred spiral galaxy in the Local Group, may or may not be a companion to the Andromeda galaxy but probably has Pisces Dwarf as a satellite.
• The membership of NGC 3109, and its companions Sextans A and the Antlia Dwarf, is uncertain due to their extreme distance from the center of the Local Group.
The other members of the group are gravitationally secluded from these large subgroups: IC10, IC1613, Phoenix Dwarf, Leo A, Tucana Dwarf, Cetus Dwarf,Pegasus Dwarf Irregular, Wolf-Lundmark-Melotte, Aquarius Dwarf, and Sagittarius Dwarf Irregular.

A member of the Local Group of galaxies, irregular galaxy Sextans A is 4.3 million light-years distant.

The bright Milky Way foreground stars appear yellowish in this view.

Beyond them lie the stars of Sextans A with young blue star clusters clearly visible
