“Bodies decompose rapidly in water,” he said.

He said it was not unusual for her hair to be gone because it grows a few millimeters into the skin which could have come away after being in water for up to 18 days.

Forensics are at a loss to explain how she could lose most of her teeth in water described as a ‘quiet bay’.

“That sounds a bit unusual, from the photographs she seems to have a good set of teeth. It depends on soft tissue decompososition but molar teeth, especially, should be there,” Prof Brown said.

An experienced police officer, who requested not to be named because his former agency refused to allow comment on the matter, said it was `bizarre’ for drown victims to have lost limbs, teeth or hair.

Both experts, who have not seen her body, said it should be obvious to see how she lost her legs and arm.

“If the tendons were cut, there would be cut marks,” Prof Brown said.

Her body was found near cliffs which have a sheer drop of at least 60m.

“The problem is whether she fell from a cliff or was thrown, the injuries will be exactly the same,” Prof Brown said.

“Bones break in the same way.”

Both forensics were puzzled that her shirt was found away from her body as drown victims are mostly found with their clothes on.

“I think the best thing they can do is get the body back to Australia, for an independent investigation,” Prof Brown said
